Museum Rocks!

Over summer we’re hiding rocks in the Museums Quarter gardens for you to find – each rock has been painted with a special design inspired by the collections in our museums.

Hunt for the rocks and when you find one, take a picture and post it on Social Media (Facebook, Twitter or Instagram) – tag us with @Hull_Museums and #MuseumRocks.  Then hide the rock again for someone else to find!

When you hide the rocks remember to:
  • Hide it in the Museums Quarter Gardens
  • Put it somewhere that is easy for other people to get to
  • Don’t throw the rocks
  • Don’t bring the rocks into the museum buildings
  • Don’t put the rocks in the pond
  • Don’t hide them in or on museum objects (e.g. statues, historic industrial machines)
  • Find the object that is featured on your rock when you visit the museums!

We’ve had great fun painting the rocks, they’ve been painted by Hull Museums’ staff and also our friends, the 69th Hull St Albans Brownies.

The 69th Hull St Albans Brownies had a marvellous time painting rocks with designs based on the collections at Hull Museums. With loads of inspiration to choose from, some girls did three rocks! Particular favourites were "The Lion at Home" and Mortimer the Mammoth. Everyone agreed that the best thing about Hull Museums was the carriage ride at Streetlife Museum, though!

Have fun finding the rocks – let us know when you find them!
